The Optical Power Meter (OPM) is a fundamental fiber-optic test instrument that measures absolute optical signal power transmitted through fiber cables, expressed in dBm or mW. Equipped with an InGaAs photodetector, it converts light signals into electrical signals for accurate readings. Paired with an optical light source, it can also calculate insertion loss across fiber links.
Handheld OPMs are compact, rugged field testers for single-mode and multimode fiber. Widely adopted in data center certification, telecom commissioning, FTTH deployment and enterprise LAN maintenance.
